PT Impack Pratama Industri Tbk. (“Impack”) has successfully concluded its “Clean Water for Remote Villages” project in West Sulawesi, providing safe and sustained access to clean water for three remote villages. Previously, residents in these villages had limited water sources for drinking, cooking, farming, and livestock needs. In collaboration with Military Regional Command XIV/Hasanudin and Brigadier General TNI Deni Rejeki, S.E., M.Si., of Military Resort Command 142/Tatag, Impack focused this project on Lekker Village, Tiga Village, and Siso Village–all situated at high altitudes far from reliable water sources, which are located in the valleys.
The installation of hydraulic ram pumps, which operate without electricity, allows pumped water to be transported via Alderon pipes from the water source to the villages. As a result, residents now have consistent access to clean water without the need to trek long and steep distances. Previously, residents had to travel a distance of between one to one and a half kilometers, crossing mountainous slopes and plantations. This project benefitted 100 households (approximately 250 people) in Lekker Village, 100 households (approximately 250 people) in Tiga Village, and 54 households (approximately 270 people) in Siso Village. In total, the project has improved the lives of 254 households, or about 770 people, enhancing their productivity, cleanliness, and hygiene.
The presence of the water pumps in these areas contributes significantly to food security and community nutrition. Most of the population works as farmers or perennial planters of cocoa and coffee. With the pump, the water supply for irrigation becomes more stable, especially during the dry season. This stability allows cocoa and coffee plants to grow and produce optimally, directly impacting crop yields.
Additionally, the pumping system enables more efficient spraying of plant pest organisms and the provision of nutrients. With better access to water, crop production can increase by 30-40% each harvest, providing economic benefits for local farmers. The availability of abundant water also allows nearby villages to share these benefits through the expansion of the piping system.
Impack is committed to continuously improving the living standards of underdeveloped communities through its Creating Shared Value (CSV) programs that utilize its innovative building products. By collaborating with Military Regional Command XIV/Hasanudin and Military Resort Command 142/Tatag, as well as applying ram pump technology, Impack demonstrates its commitment to addressing the challenges of clean water accessibility in Indonesia.
Moving forward, Impack will continue to provide innovative solutions with positive impacts, working towards a better future for underprivileged communities in Indonesia.
